THESIS

MASTHER’S THESIS

ANNO ZERO,
ARCHITECTURES OF RETURN, GAZA STRIP
Throughout history, every era has been marked by moments of rupture, wars, crises, and natural disasters, that have generated a pervasive sense of uncertainty, rendering the idea of home increasingly fragile. The possibility of losing one’s dwelling has become a widespread and recurring fear, to which architecture has often responded by experimenting with temporary forms of habitation rooted in the contemporary notion of refuge. Today, the Gaza Strip represents one of the most fragile territories in the world, shaped by decades of conflict where dynamics of control and resistance are deeply intertwined with the built environment. Here, architecture is not a neutral discipline: it becomes a tool of segregation through barriers and fragmentation, yet simultaneously a medium of resilience and identity reconstruction. Within this context, the thesis explores the role of architecture as a social instrument of territorial reappropriation and return. The project ANNOZERO proposes a method of intervention for the Gaza Strip that merges strategic vision with local action. On one hand, it defines guidelines for a widespread reconstruction process capable of triggering temporary and adaptive transformations across the territory; on the other, it experiments with the village model as a temporary micro-community, self-built, sustainable, and designed with an estimated lifespan of fifteen years. This village, based on self-construction, simple building techniques, sustainability, and shared values, becomes the first nucleus of return: a structure able to host life, generate community, and prepare the ground for the rebirth of urban centers. Once its cycle is complete, it dissolves into an urban void, a trace left in the landscape as a symbol of memory and resilience. Architecture thus becomes not only a response to destruction, but also a tool of hope, reconstruction, return, and remembrance.

BACHELOR’S THESIS

ARCHITECTURAL RETAIL,
BETWEEN FASHION STORE AND EXHIBITION SPACE

Architecture and fashion influence each other, often evolving in parallel within an increasingly global, social, and
self-aware world. It is only natural that these two disciplines meet in a single space and moment, to share and present objects, ideas, and visions to the widest possible audience.
Today, the store is no longer merely a place of sale, but a hybrid space between fashion store and exhibition space, where architecture takes on a central role, elevating garments to the level of artworks through light, materials, and spatial composition.
As Rem Koolhaas states, “shopping is probably the last form of public activity left,” and it is precisely through architectural design that retail reshapes the urban and cultural experience.
This work explores the relationship between architecture and fashion, examining how contemporary fashion retail spaces have increasingly taken on museal characteristics. The first chapters investigate the history and architectural structure of both shops and museums, while the final chapter, Architectural Retail, presents twenty recent case studies, divided into five categories, to demonstrate how the commercial space has evolved into a true exhibition environment.
